Your first visit to Dentistry at Carolina Forest is an important step toward your overall dental health and well-being. When you come in, you will fill out several forms. These include:
-Patient registration: information includes your name and address
-Medical history of any previous health problems (this is especially important as we ask for any medicines to which you may be allergic)
-An acknowledgement of receipt of "Notice of Privacy Practices"
-A consent form so we may use the health information provided by you
Next, the hygienist will take you to the panoramic digital X-ray machine. This machine will create an X-ray image of the bone structure of your entire mouth. You will be asked to stand up very straight and tall for about 5 seconds, so the machine can rotate around your entire head. The X-ray that is taken will look something like the one below.

Next the hygienist will take four bite-wing X-rays to help determine if there is any bone loss, as well as the presence of calculus (build-up between teeth). Once this is done, your teeth will be cleaned and polished. Lastly, Dr. McCoy will do a comprehensive oral evaluation to check for any areas of concern and answer any questions you may have.
